The Mazda RX8 is available in two trim levels, the automatic and the six-speed. The automatic version is equipped with a standard 1.3-litre, R2, 197hp engine, featuring a four-speed automatic transmission and overdrive. The six-speed is equipped with a standard 1.3-litre, R2, 238hp engine, combined with six-speed manual transmission and overdrive.

As well as a good ride the Mazda RX8 will comfortably seat the rear adult passengers and offers each their own bucket seat. Standard equipment is excellent with a nine speaker Bose sound system across both models.

The Mazda RX8's body is designed to provide a high level of passenger safety including a large crumple zone at the front, between the engine and front bumper as well as high strength cross members to deflect the impact of collision away from passengers. ABS is standard along with electronic brakeforce distribution. An electronic tyre pressure monitor is also available with the RX 8.

Extra safety features include front and side impact air bags, along with inflatable side curtains. The RX8 also incorporates the "latch" child safety seat anchor in both the rear seats. Security is good but expect insurance to be higher on this Mazda model!

Service intervals of 12,500 miles and manufacturer's mechanical three years or 60,000 miles with bodywork warranty of six years.
